I developed the Anomaly series when I was attempting to translate the Organism looping pattern into a three-dimensional form. Anomaly is a continuous loop, moving in front of and behind its own negative space. The forms play with the spatial clues that our mind naturally uses to comprehend depth, and leaves us guessing where it begins and where it ends. This first set is a series of sketches in black ink, playing with different forms.
This next piece is the start of where I want to go next with Anomaly: shading and color. Here, I have created a rainbow spectrum fade, starting from the innermost portion of the linework in red, and worked this color through the warm tones, and then green, and then out to the blue that forms the background. The section that is completely closed to the rest of the canvas was filled with a NASA image of space.
