Organism Engulfment

I created my Organism pattern almost by accident. I was attempting to draw a single line that would take up the most amount of space possible, when suddenly, it occurred to me that I could close this line into a loop. So, Organism is not a series of lines – it is not even a single line, but a shape, in fact. This pattern is symbolic of life: it is a never-ending circle – a long journey full of twists and turns – ultimately, it will bring you back to the same spot.

This series below features the first of the Organism Engulfment pieces, in which a painted core was surrounded by the Organism pattern. These are all smaller pieces, from 4″ to square to 8″ square. I would like to explore this pattern on a larger scale. Stay tuned: more is sure to come…
